Spider-Man/Red Sonja HC (Marvel, 2008)

Spider-Man/Red Sonja managed to make my wife roll her eyes so far back up her head, I thought she was possessed by the Dark Lord Beelzebub. It's not the story, it's the redhead. My wife wanted to know why Red Sonja goes around killing bad people in a chain mail bikini while Spider-Man is covered from head to toe in skintight spandex. To which I replied, "Phhfftt! Women." Master of the witty comeback, me.

Too bad the story isn't much fun. It's basically a remake of their first encounter in Marvel Team-Up #79 (which is also included in this collection). It's just five issues of Red Sonja and Spider-Man swinging, slashing and punching in a magically transformed New York after Kulan Gath is once again released to terrorise the modern world.

So why did I even bother buying this book?

For the opportunity to irritate my wife. What else?

To The Guy Who Googled "Superheroine Catfights"...

In my final blog entry of last year's, I wrote about the search words people have used in Google which brought them to this blog. One of them was "Superheroine catfights". I've never done that before so the guy who typed those words? Pissed off, I'm sure. But not anymore. Here are a couple of pages from that cheesecake-heavy comic, Birds of Prey, featuring Black Canary fighting a nightie-clad bad-girl Cheshire. In a swimming pool. Pencilled by Ed "tits and ass are my specialty" Benes. Enjoy, kids.

Wanna see more? Go get the trade, Birds of Prey: Sensei and Student. Yes, I occasionally shill for DC. Why do you ask?

Shave your legs and make sure you get a Brazilian wax because...

You are all invited to Black Canary's bachelorette party! Superman's gonna jump out of the cake. Admission is USD$3.99

Seriously, what kind of whacked out party is this? Most of the guests are wearing less fabric on their bodies than the guy jumping out of the cake. He's not gonna strip is he? And I swear the all-green superheroine at the back is totally naked.

So what happens in this comic? Other than the cheesecake factor, will there be fistfights? Catfights? Will Superman say to himself, "Aww, the heck with it!" and use his x-ray vision on all the guests? Go ahead and tell me. From the cover it looks nothing more than wanking material. Bring out the Kleenex!

Although, as a hetero male I have to admit Wonder Woman has a nice arse. Can't argue with that. Even Huntress is checking it out, the sly minx!

D.C. Comics Covergirls (Hardcover edition)

My latest coffee table book. Written by Louise Simonson, it features lots and lots of covers featuring D.C.'s female heroine, anti-heroines and a villainess or two. Foreword is by Adam Hughes, the master of cheesecake.

I saw lots of copies at Borders at The Curve, Bandar Utama. I think Kinokuniya KLCC has it as well. Or you can just order it online from Amazon.
